Spice (or K2) is plant matter that has been sprayed with a synthetic cannabinoid. Developed in the early 2000s, this drug was originally designed for research purposes and can produce similar (but much stronger) effects to the THC or CBD found in cannabis.
Because the chemicals used in this drug have no medical benefit and high potential for Spice abuse, the Drug Enforcement Administration has made many of them illegal. However, teens and young adults continue to use the Spice, as it’s considered a “designer drug.”
Symptoms
Like cannabis, Spice is often smoked, but because there are so many versions of the drug, it can produce a variety of symptoms among different individuals and lead to a need for Spice rehab. Some of the most common symptoms include:
- A euphoric feeling
- An overall relaxation
- Altered perception
- Giddiness
- Hallucinations
