The PHASES clinical program was designed for clients to grow and learn throughout each stage of their recovery process. The Victory Bay clinical program places emphasis on community and sponsorship, paired with open-mindedness, willingness, and honesty. The PHASES clinical program intertwines evidenced-based practices of Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other treatment modalities to enhance client’s self-awareness within their journey of recovery. Each phase will teach clients how to practice continuous reflection, mindfulness, and action steps to walk into their recovery.

“O” Phase

Clients will start their journey within the “O” Phase, where they will explore different contributing factors to their continued use of substances as well as explore their relationship with substances, family systems, community, and belief systems. Clients will learn to timeline important events in their lifetime, and our New Jersey addiction specialists will encourage participants to reflect on defining moments that may be linked to their active addiction. Through continued Motivational Interviewing (MI), clients who present in the pre-contemplation of change will be guided to find their source of motivation to seeking treatment. Through experiential and evidence-based therapy approaches, the goal of “O” phase is to elicit motivation to change behavior with guided support and understanding.

“C” Phase

Transitioning to the “C” Phase, clients will learn the Psychoeducational (PE) foundation to the psychological and physiological symptoms in the recovery process. Clients will increase their knowledge of Post-Acute Withdrawal Symptoms (PAWS) as well as learn different mental health symptoms that may be present as they are removed from their substance use. Clients will learn different coping skills and how to integrate the foundations of 12-step principles into their recovery. Clients will also further explore the disease of addiction, through creating a genogram to depict biological patterns between family relationships. The goal of “C” phase is for clients to understand the nature of their disease, and to define working goals towards the solution of healing.

“B” Phase

As clients progress to the “B” Phase of Treatment, they will learn how to practice the tools provided in previous phases to continue their recovery. Clients will learn how to develop relapse prevention plans using the Victory Bay Recovery Circle to identify risk and protective factors of their environment. During this phase, our clinicians will utilize DBT techniques and CBT techniques to practice reflective journaling, meditation, and decisional balance exercises with clients. Clients will gain the skills to identify negative thinking patterns that can lead to impulsive decision making. The goal of “B” phase is for clients to develop and take action towards the practice of positive coping skills.

“A” Phase:

As clients enter the final phase of treatment, they will have demonstrated their ability to practice their learned behaviors of personal inventory, positive replacement behaviors, thought-stopping, gratitude, spiritual connection, building sober supports, and enhancing self-care. Within the “A” Phase of Treatment, clients will continue to learn about relapse behaviors that may take form in different hobbies/habits. Clients will reflect on their experience of recovery with attention to coping with life on life’s terms. Our clinical team will work with clients to enhance their “A” team support network, as well as develop wellness tools to help clients achieve long-lasting recovery. The goal of “A” phase is for clients to maintain their recovery from learning the tools provided by the PHASES program.
